The Gas Crunch

Gas prices have really restricted the number of things I can do. It seems that the high gas prices are hitting where it hurts; right in the bank account. I used to get to travel to see my family all the time. I have family that's a three hour drive from my house and I used to see them every month. My aunts and uncles are getting older and I love to spend time with them. The only trouble is, now it costs nearly $200 to make the round-trip. All that money doesn't include the cost of food. The cost of food seems to be higher now. I can't believe the cost of milk these days. Things are only going to get worse. I can't believe how much more expensive diesel is compared to gasoline. Diesel's high prices are making everything more expensive since it's used in most things that get our products to the stores where we buy then. I really can't understand how we are going to keep up with the cost of gas. Companies are either going to have to lay off employees to cut costs or they will have to continue to raise prices on their products which will make the problem worse. The prognosis isn't good; we will feel the ramifications of the prices for years. Unless something happens soon, everything will sprial out of control. We can't possibly support our peace keeping efforts in the middle east unless something changes. Our presence is just about the only thing holding things together over there. Our ally Isreal is hanging on the edge of attacking Iran and hopefully they won't. That conflict alone could escalate into world war three and it looks as if it just might happen in my lifetime. High fuel costs have such a large impact on our whole world. It really is a shame. I hope things change soon. What kind of world are we leaving for future generations? Unfortunately, they might not have much of a future.
